The hubby brought home The Blue Planet series for us to watch the other day (hey, he knows what I like!) and like all the other Attenborough films I've seen it was wonderful!

I have Planet Earth and have seen Blue planet and several of the Life of Mammals/Birds/Plants and other in school and college. I've always found the presentation style to be impeccable with glorious camera shots and entertaining narration (Good ol' Dave has a nice friendly voice with subtle British humor) but the wording is a bit off. I'm not sure if the average viewer would have noticed this but often Sir Attenborough states that the animals are doing things in a way that makes it sound like the creature is doing it by choice rather than instinct or evolution (more of a "the giraffe grew it's long neck so it could reach the most tender of leaves" rather than "evolution of a long neck allows the giraffe to reach the most tender of leaves"). I know that it makes for a much more exciting and easily understandable narrative than scientifically correct terminology would but it kind of rankles me.
What do you all think? Does it really matter how he says it as long as it gets the general populace and children interested in the natural world around us?
