As a member of the
Yakmala group (a group that watches bad movies) I was one of many from Yakmala that went to view the movie
The Spirit after some of the reviews that we were getting.
One member from Yakmala says "
The Spirit is looking into Frank Miller's soul" which is filled with whores and eggs apparently.
The original
The Spirit was created by Will Eisner back in 1940 and first was seen mainly on the cartoon section on the Sunday newspaper. It's a story of Denny Colt who was thought to be dead by everyone, instead of continuing his life he chooses to become
The Spirit to fight crime with his brawn, sharp humor and quick wit.
I remember when Frank Miller announced at Comic Con that he was going to make
The Spirit into a movie at Comic Con. He was at the time working on 300 (not directing - only writing). I thought he might only help write the story - I am a big fan of
[Dark Knight and
Sin City, so I thought that this guy could possibly pull of the spirit if he turned down the
whore volume in his story. But at the
San Diego Comic Con of 2008, I came aware that he was planning on being the writer/director of the movie. Then I saw a trailer and knew that noise was Will Eisner already rolling in his grave.
The Spirit movie is Frank Miller putting Denny Colt in the
Sin City scene setting. If someone told me that this was actually going to be a part of [b.Sin City 2[/b] movie, I wouldn't have been surprised. Every woman is horribly attractive and want to get into
The Spirit's pants. Which the original
Spirit had a lot of women into him and were attractive, but it was a detective story and was in the Sunday papers in the 1940s, that means he was a gentleman who found his work more important than being tempted by these women (much like the old Batman comics).
What made me realize the madness that is
Frank Miller was this crazy hatred for eggs from the character
Octopus. Many of us from
Yakmala are curious on what would happen if we tossed eggs at
Frank Miller next year at Comic Con?
I also couldn't stand how the movie gave the feeling that the audience were morons and needed to drill in the point of the movie as often as possible. I got whacked over the head with the idea of
"immorality" and how
Sand Saref liked
"shinny" that I think I'm now suffering from a concussion. And don't get me started on Nazi
Octopus, that was nothing but getting slapped in the face over and over again with verbal redundancy - and I don't know if I have ever laughed so hard at a kitten getting killed...
Though I have seen worse movies, this movie was still bad. I spent most of my viewing time laughing at serious points because they were stupid and groaned in pain at other points that were just horrible.
